Glen Frost’s Takeaways:

It's a positive sign to see the IRS proactively offering tax relief to those impacted by these severe weather events. This isn't just about pushing paperwork deadlines; it's about giving people a bit of breathing room to focus on more pressing needs after facing such hardship.

  • The IRS is providing extended deadlines for taxpayers in specific West Virginia counties, the entire states of Tennessee and Arkansas due to storms, and for all of North Carolina following Hurricane Helene.
  • For most affected areas in WV, TN, and AR, tax obligations due from mid-February 2024 through early November 2025 are now pushed to November 3, 2025.
  • North Carolina residents impacted by Hurricane Helene have an extended deadline of September 25, 2025, which is an additional extension from the previously announced May 1, 2025, date.

This kind of targeted relief can make a real difference for individuals and families as they work to recover. It acknowledges the disruption these events cause and provides some much-needed flexibility during a difficult time.
